Why should I take vitamins D3 and K2 together?

Vitamin D has been studied as an important vitamin for immune and bone health, mood, and overall health status. We naturally get vitamin D from sun exposure, however modern lifestyles have led to a lack of sun exposure i.e. sunscreen use, sedentary lifestyles and certain latitudes. Vitamin K supports bodily functions such as heart and bone health. Combining vitamin K with vitamin D supports the mobilization of calcium into bone where it belongs, avoiding calcium deposits in soft tissue.

What are the benefits of taking a nanoemulsified D3K2?

Vitamin D absorption is heavily impacted by many factors such as diet, lifestyle, age, health, and genetic variation. Both Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 are fat-soluble vitamins, making them well suited to a nanoemulsion liquid formula, utilizing Quicksilver Scientific’s delivery technology and small particle size. Our Vitamin D3K2 was developed to render both fat-soluble vitamins highly absorbable, thereby improving their rate of impact.

What’s the difference between vitamin D3 and vitamin D2?

Vitamin D2 is sourced from plants and fungi. Vitamin D3 is synthesized in the skin of vertebrates (including humans) when exposed to UVB radiation from sunlight. Humans have a combination of vitamins D2 and D3 available to them as part of a typical lifestyle from ambient UV exposure (vitamin D3), habitual dietary intakes of vitamin D3–rich foods (egg yolks and oily fish), fortified foods (which generally have vitamin D2 fortification), and vitamin supplements (both vitamins D2 and D3 are available). Supplemental vitamin D3 is more effective than vitamin D2 (calciferol) at raising the body’s serum 25-OH vitamin D concentration.

Both forms of D play the same role in the body, but they have differing molecular structures, sources, and potency. Vitamin D2 is sourced from plants and fungi, while Vitamin D3 comes from animal sources or is synthesized in the skin when exposed to UVB radiation from sunlight. Dietary sources of D3 include egg yolks, fatty fish, and cheese. Humans have a combination of vitamins D2 and D3 available to them, however, supplemental vitamin D3 is considered a more bioactive form.

What’s the difference between vitamin K2 and vitamin K1?

Vitamin K1 and K2 are both part of the vitamin K family and support healthy blood clotting and cardiovascular and bone health, but they differ in structure, sourcing, and how they are absorbed. K1 comes from plant sources and is quickly filtered out of the blood. K2 comes from animal sources and fermented foods. For K2, we use menaquinone-7, or MK-7, which is a highly bioactive form of vitamin K2. MK-7 has been shown to have a longer half-life than vitamin K1 which may lead to longer lasting effects. K2 has also been shown to help support bone density

Why should I take vitamin D with vitamin K?

Vitamin K2 is often taken with Vitamin D3 to promote proper calcium mobilization into bones and teeth, supporting both bone health and normal vascular function.

Is there an ideal ratio of vitamin D3 to K2?

No, although these fat-soluble nutrients work together in the body, their dosing should be independently considered and based on an individual’s need.

Is it possible to take too much Vitamin D3?

Because these nutrients are fat soluble, they can build up in the body, making it important to have your vitamin D blood levels monitored regularly. We suggest working with your healthcare practitioner to understand your individual supplementation and dosing needs.
